Find answers to common questions about our therapy services, booking process, and what to expect during your sessions.
How do online therapy sessions work? Our online therapy sessions are conducted via secure video conferencing platforms, allowing you to connect with our registered therapists from the comfort of your home. You simply need a private space, a device with internet access, and a calm environment. Appointments are scheduled at your convenience, making therapy accessible and flexible to fit your schedule. What is the cost of a session? Each 55-minute session costs $80, making professional mental health support affordable and accessible. We believe in providing quality care at a transparent rate, with no hidden fees. Payment is arranged between you and your therapist.
Do I need any prior experience with therapy?
No prior experience is necessary. Whether you're new to therapy or returning after some time, our therapists are here to support you at your own pace. We tailor our approach to meet your unique needs, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment for growth and healing. Is a psychotherapist the same as a psychologist?
Not quite. Psychologists are registered with AHPRA and can offer Medicare-rebated sessions with a GP-issued Mental Health Care Plan. Psychotherapists, like our team, are registered with PACFA, Australia's peak body for counselling and psychotherapy, and follow our own training, supervision, and ethical standards. Sessions with us aren't Medicare-rebated, but they come with fewer barriers to getting started.
Do I need a GP referral or Mental Health Care Plan to see someone at New Tide?
No. You can book directly with us — no referral, no plan, no waiting on a GP appointment first.
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
No. You don't need a clinical diagnosis to benefit from talking to someone. Many people come to us simply because they want support, clarity, or someone to talk to — not because they fit a specific label.
