Do I need a GP referral or a Mental Health Care Plan?
No. You can book directly with New Tide today. No GP visit, no referral, no Mental Health Care Plan and no waiting for an appointment before your appointment.
Our psychotherapists are registered with PACFA, the peakbody for counselling and psychotherapy in Australia. Sessions are $80 for 55 minutes. That is the same price every time, with no gap fee.
What about Medicare rebates?
Sessions with us are not Medicare-rebated, and we would rather say that plainly than have you find out later. Psychologists can offer rebated sessions if you have a GP-issued Mental Health Care Plan, usually capped at ten a year. What you get instead is no cap on how many sessions you have, no formal diagnosis required, and no multi-week waitlist. You stay in therapy as long as it is useful to you, not as long as Medicare allows.
Who comes to us this way?
Most people who book without a referral are in one of three situations. They have used up their ten rebated sessions for the year. They are on a psychologist waitlist and want support in the meantime. Or they simply want to start without the paperwork. If your situation is complex or you think you may need aformal diagnosis or psychiatric input, a psychologist or your GP is the better starting point, and we will say so.
We can usually offer a first session within 1 day.
